Abstract Submission

Call for Abstracts

Help us plan a cutting edge, impactful science program! The Scientific Program Committee is now accepting abstracts for the 73rd Annual International Conference of the Wildlife Disease Association in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The conference theme is action orientated, “Communication, Collaboration and Community for Change.”

The threats to wildlife health are complicated and rapidly accelerating. Generating evidence and transforming it into meaningful action is needed now. This demands communication, including respecting different ways of knowing, and effective collaboration among groups often with disparate values to create communities focused on proactive change for wildlife health.

General Abstract (in-person event)

Themes

The Scientific Program Committee encourages abstracts that address the provisional themes listed below. As usual, we will also accept abstracts on all aspects of wildlife health and disease for the General oral and poster sessions.

Communication

  • Effective conversations among multiple audiences/communities
  • Translating complicated science to political or community decision makers, or other key partners
  • Changing the conversation to mobilize knowledge into action.

Collaboration

  • Acknowledging community differences in concepts of land, wildlife health and their management
  • Strategies to listen and respect
  • Storytelling and experiences in community partnerships
  • Balancing differing values, priorities and rights in community partnerships

Community

  • Effective conversations among multiple audiences/communities
  • Translating complicated science to political or community decision makers, or other key partners
  • Changing the conversation to mobilize knowledge into action.

Additional Session Topics

  • Aquatic and marine animal ecosystem health
  • Northern and Mountain ungulate health
  • Innovations in quantitative and qualitative wildlife health research

Oral Presentations

To allow as many people as possible to give a talk, attendees will be limited to a single oral presentation; however, you may be a co-author on other presentations or submit multiple abstracts for poster presentation.

Poster Presentations

There will be two poster sessions, one showcasing work by our student attendees and a general session.

Registration Required to Participate

All presenters (poster and oral) need to register for the conference no later than May 15 2025 to confirm participation. If a presenter does not register by that date, the Scientific Program Committee will assume they are not able to attend the conference and will find a replacement.
